HP X360 11-AB011DX Convertible Laptop Review

HP X360 11-AB011DX Convertible Laptop Review

The hottest new thing in portable laptops are 2 in 1s with the ability to double as a laptop of a tablet. HP comes to market with a powerful yet affordable 2 in 1 in this model. You get more power than most tablets for a lower price so it’s pretty win-win unless you have to have an apple design on your device. A step above a tablet and still running with the lower end laptops that’s pretty much what were looking at today.

Design

Here we have a pretty cool 2 and 1 model. With a fully rotating screen you can use this laptop in many different ways. That being said the design is relatively basic with a full black casing the only pattern featured is around the touchpad with a striated black lined design. With a weight of 2.98 pounds and a 11.6 inch screen this model is extremely light and leans toward the tablet specialty though it does look a bit bulkier than most tablet’s when folded over. All in all HP went for functionality over a sleek design for this 2 and 1 which isn’t too bad for the price.

Hardware Configuration

Processor

People don’t usually buy tablet’s for their speed and that continues to be the case with this model. However HP went with a Intel Celeron N3060 1.6 ghz dual core processor. This processor tops out at a boosted 2.4 ghz which isn’t bad at all for a tablet. This processor is stronger than all but the newest IPad models. Only the 2017 models outperform this processor so for the tablet crowd we do have a pretty strong processor. When we compare it to most laptop processors we have a pretty basic entry level speed that will only feel good running basic programs like web surfing and word processing. Look elsewhere all ye hardcore gamers.

Graphics

Here we have a low end Intel HD 400 integrated graphics card. As the card is integrated it will sap away it’s power from your processor and RAM so it’s not recommended for hardcore gamers. The card itself isn’t that powerful so I probably wouldn’t recommend it much for casual gamers either however it will run tablet level games at a good level. You won’t be able to push this model much in anyway thanks to a limited capacity for upgrades as well. Definitely not for any serious graphics designers but this machine won’t have any issues graphically as long as you keep your expectations at a tablet level.

RAM

I hope you aren’t expecting high end laptop speed because that really isn’t what this model is about. Housing only 4 gigabytes of DDR3 RAM this 2 in 1 won’t be breaking any speed records. That being said though the speed is highly respectable for a tablet. What seems small for a laptop will also put you among the contenders for laptop supremacy. The DDR3 doesn’t run as efficiently as DDR4 with it’s higher voltage requirements but altogether should be enough for basic applications. So overall we have a model that has great speed for a tablet but poor speed for a laptop that isn’t too bad when you factor in the price.

Storage

It won’t be too long before you are struggling with space on this model however with it’s 2 in 1 capabilities this might of been expected. Here we have a 32 gb emmc memory hard drive which doesn’t have a ton of space but come with other benefits. The equivalent of a small solid state drive gives us high speed booting times for the machine and applications. This drive also helps when we account for the extra battery life it provides over a mechanical hard drive. 32 gigs is a pretty heavy limiter for how much you can store but if you are using it mainly as a tablet this still might be enough. Realistically though it won’t be long before you are using memory cards or an external hard drive.

Screen

HP went pretty standard for it’s screen abilities outside of the fully responsive touch screen. Of course as a 2 in 1 the screen has to be touch capable which tells how this model stuck to the basics. With a 1366 x 768 maximum resolution we have serviceable visuals for a 11.6 inch screen. On a 16:9 aspect ratio their isn’t anything too special at about this screen just a standard blue collar worker.

Additional Features

In this miniature model their isn’t too much room for added features however HP did their best to deliver. We have a 802.11 ac wifi card for high speeds along with Bluetooth 4.0 capabilities. There are built in speakers and a built in camera for your basic web camming needs. We have a HDMI port and also 3 USB ports including two 2.0’s and one 3.0 for it’s ten times speed. A SD card reader and headphone jack round out this models list of features. The only thing we are really missing is an optical drive which is understandable considering how petite this machine is.

Value for Money

This is where this model stands out as a fully capable 2 in 1 at $245.07 the value is definitely apparent in this HP. Considering an IPad with comparable specs will run you at least $500 dollars this tablet is pretty nice. This is all dependant on you wanting to use it as a tablet though because it doesn’t really compete with most low end laptops. As a laptop this machine is good for basic activities like word processing and web surfing but you do not want to use it for PC gaming. So what we have here is a great tablet for it’s price or a decent laptop for it’s price. You can’t be too mad at that either way so the value is there.

HP X360 11-AB011DX Convertible Laptop Review Conclusion

This model is not for the faint of heart as you will run into walls repeatedly if you are trying to use it for all the things a desktop computer is capable. However if you know you just want a tablet that you can open up and type things out like a normal human being then you won’t be disappointed. HP made sure you would have just enough for anyone used to a tablet while keeping it barely enough for anyone who wants to use a laptop.
